burgundy blues
I spent the whole night thinking,
dreaming about your hair.
The smell of incense and cigarettes,
there was music everywhere.
Someone stopped to tell me
that I wasn’t really there.
I just pulled down the shades,
and I asked them not to stare.
We used to run on water
and build rainbows in the streets.
We were trees in rivers
and paths with broken feet.
Wearing rain like wonder,
we’d bathe in the streams.
We used to sow the sky with stars
and watch the universe seed.
I’ve spent the whole day wearing your smile.
I’d forgotten how it tastes.
The dogs they barked and moaned,
but the neighbors can’t complain.
If you wake up and miss it,
I know you’ll find another face.
You always took so easily.
Me, I’ve grown tired of the chase.
Tell me, again, when apples grew,
when daisies fell from the sky,
when clouds would form from laughter,
when the sun did shine from our eyes.
Tell me, once more, of summer’s love,
of days outside of time.
These eyes are like burning coals.
Oh, maybe I’m just blind.

Beautiful.
This is tender, haunting, and deeply felt. <3
